The 1978 expansion continues up to 322 Iran, and then we begin the lightweight
era proper.
The years covered by these one hundred numbers
are approximately 1980-83. Having previously covered most of the teams in Subbuteo's
export market countries, these numbers see a return to England and Scotland, and
deal with redesigned kits, often with only minor trim changes. It also sees an increase
in the trend for fancy away kits. The main exception is the range of French teams
336-348, enlarging, and replacing those at 137-148.
Machine printing clearly becomes the norm for
teams from 1981-82 onwards, but hand-painting still occurs in the accessory range
into the 1990s so Subbuteo do retain some hand-painting capacity that can be used
to produce teams. It is mainly the smaller sides that get hand-painted - forgoing
the need for a machine print.
Team Colours.
- Numbers in bold are those in "the top 100" in the UK in 1982. These
teams were the usual shop supply.
- Numbers in red
did not have teams associated with them in 1980, and were deleted in 1981. These
are the teams least likely to have a lightweight version. However, lightweights
do sometimes turn up for these kits, and I have stated where these have been
seen.
- For teams up to 330, I will continue to mention any machine prints that
exist.
- For teams after 330 I will mention teams which do NOT seem to have a machine
print.
