Both these countries produced their own ranges at the beginning of the 1980s. Some details of these teams can be found on the International Team Production page.
Spain.
The famous red and blue stripes of Barcelona first appeared in the Subbuteo charts in the early 1960s when it replaced Bradford Park Ave at 019. The other Spanish giants, Real Madrid, wore their classic all white strip - so they didn't need a special kit to be added to the catalogues in the 1960s. However, the rest of Spain was strangely overlooked. The big 1978 team increases only added Atletico Madrid at 226.
The Spanish teams only started appearing in 1982 - to coincide with them hosting the World Cup. Even then, not many teams make it into the British catalogues. What is interesting to me is that these teams are in the 400-440 range, which remained incomplete in the UK catalogues. We know that more Spanish teams were produced for their internal market. Was this a planned range that fell victim to the Subbuteo cut backs of the early 1980s?

*Valladolid should have purple stripes not blue - so ref 003 is not actually correct.
Portugal.
Unlike Spain, Portugal was well supported during the 1978 expansion, with ten teams being added. I'm not too sure how accurate the names are on these teams however. Most of the long running Portuguese sides remain faithful to one number.
